The Lady Horns Track Team for 2018 may be small in quantity but is extremely high in quality. They proved this once again this weekend at the Region 1 Track Meet held at Abilene Christian University. The Lady Horns carried six athletes to compete and came home with a 7th place finish out of 33 teams. Leading the charge was Sophomore Trinity Tomlinson. Trinity is the Regional Champion in the high jump and will compete at the State Track Meet in Austin on May 11 & 12. Trinity cleared 5’6 to win the event and narrowly missed setting the regional record of 5’8 on her last attempt. She will also have a chance to go to the state meet in the 100 Hurdles as a wild card after finishing 3rd in the event with a very respectable time of 15.25. The 4 x100 Relay team of sophomores Tomlinson, Haley Spieckerman, Jensen Hutchins and junior Emily Jillson placed third, and the 4 x 200 Relay made of the same young ladies set the school record in the event, placing 6th. Ellie Ryan placed 4th in the discus with a season and personal best throw of 117′ 3″. Jensen placed 5th in the 100 meters (12.69) and Spieckerman and Jillson competed well in the long jump and triple jump respectively and will return next year to build on their tremendous successes in those events. Good luck to Trinity as she competes to bring home a state champion to Early and a big “Thank You” to all of the young ladies that participated in track. You are better because of it and I look forward to you and many others contributing to the future.
