The Longhorn Track team concluded a highly successful season this weekend at the Region 1 Track Meet held at Abilene Christian University. 33 schools were represented and our young men finished 14th. Jeremiah Fowler started the competition by placing 5th in the 3200m breaking the school record that has stood for 16 years. The Boys 4 x 100 Relay team of Jesson Tarrant, Timmy Smithson, Devyn Burns and Ryan Trompler ran a season best 44.6, a mark that ranks better than any time ran in the last three seasons. In the 800m, Ryan Hill broke his own school record, recording a personal best 1:58.69, finishing third in the event and missing a berth in the state track meet by a mere 6/100ths of a second. David Shields ran in the 110 Hurdles and ran a 16.2 narrowly missing the finals. Concluding our competition in the meet was the 4 x 400m Relay team of seniors Ethan Rhodes, Devyn Burns, Mason Flippin and Ryan Hill. This group broke the school record in the preliminary round shaving 4 seconds off of their season best from two weeks ago and topped that by beating the 24 hour old record in the finals by finishing in 4th place with a 3:25.73. Setting the new record and eclipsing their Area Championship time by five seconds. Congratulations to all and a special “Thank You” to our senior track members. Ethan Rhodes, Devyn Burns, Ryan Hill, Miguel Elizondo, Colton Piri and Mason Flippin. These gentlemen define the term “competitive athlete”. Your contributions to the track program are immense and will carry over into the future. Thank You!
