Longhorns News · Uncommon Man Program

We are getting ready to kick off our Uncommon Man mentor program.  This was a great deal last spring, and I would like for this to grow even more!

At one time our country was full of men with integrity.  Something as small as a handshake was considered to be a binding contract.  Many men fought and laid down their lives for the many freedoms we have today.  I want to make sure our boys understand this.

Over the past 20+ years in coaching I have witnessed many things that have made me extremely proud, but none mean more to me than watching one of our athletes make the right decisions in their lives.  Athletes are challenged everyday with things we didn’t know would exist 25 or 30 years ago.  The invention of cellphones and mass media have changed the world we live in.  Some of these things are good, but some have destroyed the way people live and interact with one another.  We are living in a time where the absence of a father figure in the home is destroying the young people of today.  Every day we coach young men and women who have not been taught the qualities that made the family unit strong.

If we are going to save our country, we must take this as a challenge that has been given to us as coaches.  We may be the only people our kids see from day to day that is an example of how we are supposed to live.  We must find a way to get fathers involved in the lives of their children and then we must help them by showing them what a true man looks like.

I need your help.

We will have a MENTOR meeting this Sunday 9-17-17 in the High School SAC at 3:00 p.m.  I will discuss what our expectations of being a MENTOR, as well as other things.
